The high-tech company TRUMPF is set to unveil its new line of TruFiber P fiber lasers at the LASER – World of Photonics trade show in Munich, Germany, ushering in a new era in laser technology.

Laser World of Photonics in Munich is one of the most important laser trade shows in the world. For the trade show, Christian Schmitz, Chief Executive Officer of Laser Technology at TRUMPF, described what the trends in the industry are, and why lasers alone cannot meet the challenges of the future.

New “nano joints” technology allows users to nest parts right next to each other on the sheet. Process is more reliable yet requires less time and material. Tiny size of break-off tabs generally eliminates need for finishing.

Traditionally, Smithstown offers a range of production methods, including milling, rotating, sanding and eroding. The aim was to expand the repertoire to include 3D printing and to set up an additive centre within a recently erected extension. These include technologies from the fields of automation and digitalization, which allow processes to be organized much more efficiently before and after machining. “Unproductive secondary activities account for 80 percent of the throughput time of an order. The high-tech company TRUMPF and STARMATIK, the Italian specialist for robotic automation of sheet metal processing machines, agree to collaborate even more closely in the future. The two companies have recently announced that they have entered into an agreement to that effect.
