OPEN MIND Technologies AG will exhibit at AMB in Stuttgart from September 15 to 19, 2026, in Hall 2, Booth 2B21, presenting the Hummingbird Manufacturing Execution System alongside the hyperMILL CAD/CAM suite.
Addressing the Industrial Challenge
Hummingbird was developed for manufacturing environments where orders, priorities, and workloads are constantly changing, and therefore follows a modular approach. The system is designed primarily to provide transparency and predictability in areas where these are otherwise easily lost in single-part and small-batch production. A key difference from other systems is the strict event-driven control, where every manufactured part immediately provides an up-to-date status for all users.
Technical Architecture and Responsibilities
To meet the varying digitalization needs of companies, four entry-level modules are available. The planning and control module connects planning and the shop floor within a digital system, detects deviations in real time, and enables immediate adjustments to machine capacities via an agile planning board. The CAM/CNC integration centrally manages CAD projects, NC programs, as well as process and tool data, and transmits NC programs directly to the machine at the push of a button. Tool logistics optimize tool management by recording remaining tool life, tool measurement, and the logistics of tools and holders. Finally, machine data acquisition captures available machine data fully automatically, evaluates machine and operating states as well as running and idle times in real time, and generates Key Performance Indicators.
Deployment and Operational Integration
Each Hummingbird module can be used independently while simultaneously forming part of an end-to-end process chain. At the machine workstations, all required information such as the current NC program, setup information, and order data is available digitally. Feedback on deviations in cutting parameters or tool life can be recorded directly by the machine operators. The networking of the systems makes it possible to flexibly adapt manufacturing processes to changing conditions and reliably meet delivery deadlines.

Applications and Use Cases
The software solutions are used in industrial single-part and small-batch production to ensure digital continuity from work preparation to the shop floor. Typical application areas include the automated provision of NC programs to CNC machines, the monitoring of tool life to prevent tool overstocking, and the real-time evaluation of machine and operating states to increase overall equipment effectiveness.
Results and Operational Impact
Through its modular structure and strict event-driven control, Hummingbird contributes to significantly increasing transparency and predictability in manufacturing operations. The central management of CAM projects and the direct provision of setup and order information at the machine workstations reduce data fragmentation and minimize downtime. At the same time, the automated acquisition of machine data ensures precise monitoring of Key Performance Indicators and helps companies respond more flexibly to capacity changes.
