Introducing Next-Generation Lead-Free Free-Cutting Brass "GloBrass"

Offering excellent cost effectiveness and Environmentally Friendly Material contributing to achieving SDGs.

Introducing Next-Generation Lead-Free Free-Cutting Brass GloBrass

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation ("MMC") is pleased to announce that our Advanced Products Company has developed the next-generation lead-free free-cutting brass "GloBrass"*1, which delivers improved cost effectiveness, electrical conductivity and hot workability than its predecessor "ECO BRASS"*2. GloBrass and ECO BRASS are compliant with RoHS directive*3 and other regulations concerning lead.

GloBrass is a lead-free brass, which reduces metal costs by revising the mixture ratio of copper and zinc while having excellent machinability and strength. GloBrass has improved electrical conductivity to 16%, almost double that of ECO BRASS, and enhanced hot workability*4 attracting a wider range of markets and applications including electrical and electronic components that require good electrical conductivity.

GloBrass is a lead-free brass, which will contribute to a broader range of customers and industries in the global market. Additionally, GloBrass is available to customers looking for a more environmentally friendly brass or developing new products that will benefit from its excellent cost effectiveness, electrical conductivity or hot workability. In addition, we offers comprehensive product support in terms of specifications, proper cutting conditions or cutting tools in coordination with our Metalworking Solutions Company.

Lead is hazardous to human beings and the environment. The environmental regulations concerning lead have been expanded and strengthened globally with Europe's RoHS directive, ELV directive*5 and other rules. Furthermore, the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit formulated new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)*6 for 2030, thereby raising corporate social responsibility as well.

To help solve such issues, MMC put ECO BRASS lead-free free-cutting brass on the market in 2002, followed in 2015 with C87870 (SnECO), which excels in corrosion resistance. This time MMC now unveils GloBrass the next generation lead-free free-cutting brass, which contributes to Goal 6 (Water and Sanitation), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and Goal 12 (Sustainable Consumption and Production) of SDGs 2030.

Mitsubishi Materials Group, under the corporate philosophy "For People, Society and the Earth," pursues the vision that "We will become the leading business group committed to creating a sustainable world through materials innovation, with use of our unique and distinctive technologies, for People, Society and the Earth."
