DMG MORI introduces next-generation automation system

DMG MORI has introduced its next-generation automation system, MATRIS WPH, designed to streamline flexible workpiece and pallet handling. As high-mix, low-volume production becomes more common, manufacturers face challenges such as small lot sizes, frequent fixture changes, and the difficulty of achieving long periods of unmanned operation. Pallet automation in particular has remained costly due to the need for multiple dedicated fixtures.

MATRIS WPH solves these issues by integrating both workpiece and pallet handling into a single, flexible automation package. The system is available in two robot variants—the MATRIS WPH 70 (70 kg max payload) and MATRIS WPH 210 (210 kg max payload).

The solution operates via the DMG MORI Automation Controller, positioned next to the drawer stocker, and features an intuitive no-code interface for robot operation and system monitoring. Additional features include movable storage shelves for different fixture types, a practical setup station, and a high-capacity drawer stocker. With smart system design and automatic robot teaching enabled by touch probes, MATRIS WPH enables system start-up in half the time required by previous MATRIS models.
