ANDRITZ Schuler has introduced the HFA plus+ series of fineblanking presses, designed to deliver energy-efficient, high-output production of precision stamped components for automotive and industrial applications. The expanded offering targets parts requiring smooth, burr-free cut edges and flatness, such as seat belt fasteners, adjustment mechanisms and gears. The new presses incorporate advanced drive and control technologies to improve performance and support digital manufacturing integration.
Evolution of Fineblanking Technology
Fineblanking is a metal forming process that produces components with very tight dimensional tolerances and minimal post-processing requirements by applying controlled forces through hydraulic systems and precision tooling. This process is widely used in sectors such as automotive, heavy machinery and industrial equipment where part quality and consistency are critical.
The HFA plus+ series builds on ANDRITZ Schuler’s long experience in hydraulic fineblanking systems; more than 800 hydraulic presses of this type have been supplied worldwide through collaboration with tooling specialist Feintool AG. In the updated framework, ANDRITZ Schuler now assumes direct responsibility for manufacturing and delivering turnkey systems, while Feintool contributes process and tooling expertise as required.
Technical Enhancements and Output Performance
The new fineblanking presses operate with press forces ranging from 3,200 to 15,500 kN and deliver up to 85 strokes per minute, enabling high throughput for large-volume production. Servo-controlled hydraulic pump drives improve energy efficiency by a double-digit percentage while increasing stroke rates, compared with conventional fixed-speed hydraulic systems. Servo motors on automation components accelerate material handling and improve positional accuracy.
Integrated control systems with real-time process monitoring provide interfaces for advanced Industry 4.0 functionality, supporting data collection, diagnostics and connectivity with factory automation platforms. These capabilities enable manufacturers to monitor key performance indicators such as cycle time, energy consumption and component quality as part of a broader digital supply chain strategy.
Applications and Industrial Relevance
Fineblanking presses are essential in producing safety-critical and mechanically demanding components, particularly for the automotive industry where precision and surface quality directly affect assembly performance and durability. The HFA plus+ series is suited for stamping parts that require very smooth edges and flatness without secondary finishing operations.
The first deliveries of the upgraded presses include two 8,800 kN units built at ANDRITZ Schuler’s Göppingen, Germany facility for Feintool’s operations in the United States in early 2025.
Lifecycle Services and Support
In addition to machine delivery, ANDRITZ Schuler offers comprehensive lifecycle support, including inspections, spare parts supply, consulting, software updates and modernization solutions. Support extends to existing HFA Plus and HFA Speed systems, which will remain available alongside the new HFA plus+ series.
Technical Positioning
The HFA plus+ series represents a measurable advancement in fineblanking press efficiency and digital readiness through servo-driven hydraulics and integrated control systems. By improving energy efficiency and enabling higher output rates while maintaining precision, the technology supports manufacturers seeking to optimize production economics and integrate fineblanking into automated, data-driven manufacturing environments.
