Dormer Pramet Presents New Tools for Metalworking

Dormer Pramet announces the expansion of its cutting tool range for the AMB 2026 trade fair. The portfolio includes new geometries, coating technologies, and indexable inserts for turning, milling, and drilling steel, stainless steel, and cast iron to increase process reliability in demanding manufacturing environments.

Expansions in the Turning Range
In the field of turning applications, the company introduces the T9425 grade. This combines a functional gradient substrate with an MT-CVD coating and a textured α-Al2O3 layer for machining in steel and stainless steel (ISO P and ISO M). Gold-colored TiN-coated clearance faces serve for visual wear detection. For the high-speed machining of gray cast iron, the CVD turning grade T5405 was developed, which offers thermal stability through a precision-ground seating surface. For medium turning applications in steel, the new ML chip breaker offers precise chip control at low depths of cut and medium to high feed rates. In addition, the G8415 grade, featuring a next-generation multilayer PVD coating and a TiBN sliding layer, targets parting-off, grooving, and copy turning of hardened materials as well as standard metals.

Milling and Drilling Tools
The S9xx solid carbide end mill range is being expanded by 204 new variants in metric and imperial dimensions. The cutters feature a TiAlN coating and optimized flute geometries for use in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. For drilling applications, the manufacturer presents the Force X Generation 2 solid carbide drills for ISO P, M, and K materials. The drilling portfolio is complemented by Force Micro Drills (for diameters from 0.7 to 2.95 mm) and Force Deep Hole Drills (DHD) for drilling depths up to 20xD.

New Tool Holders
For radial turning, Dormer Pramet offers new polygon shank (PSC) holders. These modular holders are compatible with existing BS blades and are designed for bilateral (right/left) mounting. New ISO S holders for internal turning feature integrated cooling and are designed for machining deep holes and hard-to-reach internal geometries. These new holders will replace selected previous tool types in the assortment.

Additional Context: Technical Specifications and Benchmarking
This section describes technical specifications and competitive comparisons not included in the original product announcement.

In the global cutting tool market, there is a clear technological trend toward specialized CVD multilayer coatings (such as MT-CVD in combination with alpha-aluminum oxide), as these significantly improve thermal resistance in continuous high-speed turning processes. In the direct competitive environment, market leaders like Sandvik Coromant and Kennametal also rely on thick α-Al2O3 layers to effectively counteract crater wear when machining ISO P (steel) and ISO K (cast iron) materials. The increasing demand for micro drills (from 0.7 mm) and extreme deep hole drills (up to 20xD) is driven across industries primarily by medical technology, as well as the automotive and hydraulics sectors, where miniaturization and the placement of deep cooling channels require the highest positioning accuracy. Furthermore, integrated internal cooling has established itself as an essential industry standard in ISO tool holders to regulate heat generation at the cutting edge and ensure reliable chip evacuation during deep internal turning operations.
