High Power Laser Cutting Machine For Thick Plates

The economical processing of thick sheet metal requires cutting systems that efficiently convert high laser power into precise cutting results. To meet this industrial requirement in construction and stainless steel processing, TRUMPF is introducing the new TruLaser 8000 Power Edition laser cutting machine.

Laser Power And Cutting Process
The processing of material thicknesses between ten and 80 millimeters is often characterized by low cutting speeds and process-related instabilities. The TruLaser 8000 Power Edition addresses this challenge by integrating a 50 kilowatt fiber laser, which corresponds to a doubling of the highest laser power previously available in the TRUMPF portfolio. The machine architecture is designed to effectively transfer this high available power into the material to ensure a combination of high cutting speed, precision, and robust processing quality. Martin Blaschke, product manager at TRUMPF, emphasizes that the developed solution combines high productivity with the mechanical robustness typical of the system.

System Integration And Process Monitoring
For continuous daily manufacturing operations, the reduction of unplanned downtime is essential. The system features several integrated camera systems that monitor the entire machine interior, the active cutting process, and the pallet changer. These live images and real-time notifications are provided on a central dashboard on the additional screen of the control panel and can be accessed from any location. The system clearly consolidates machine status, remaining runtimes, and current events so that operators can quickly identify the causes of malfunctions and intervene specifically. Detailed evaluations of system utilization make potentials visible for optimizing machine availability when managing multiple systems in parallel.

Industrial Applications And System Formats
Depending on the selected format, the laser cutting machine processes metal sheets with dimensions ranging from 3 by 1.5 meters up to 8 by 2.5 meters. The system is particularly suitable for steel service centers, heavy machinery and plant construction, infrastructure projects, and the defense industry, where the highest quality requirements are placed on components made of thick sheet metal. The official market launch will start at the EuroBLECH 2026 trade fair. In April 2027, TRUMPF will also present the system at its INTECH in-house exhibition.

Additional Context
This section contains technical specifications and competitive benchmarking that were not included in the original product announcement.

The integration of fiber lasers with 50 kilowatts of power marks a significant technological leap in industrial sheet metal manufacturing. In heavy industry, high-power laser cutting is increasingly replacing established processes such as plasma or oxy-fuel cutting, as it offers far smaller thermal heat-affected zones and higher dimensional accuracy for massive components. In the highly competitive market for thick sheet cutting systems, manufacturers like Bystronic and EAGLE are also driving the scaling of laser source power. The critical benchmark for these systems lies in the ability of the optical components and the cutting head to continuously manage the massive thermal profile of the 50 kW beam without focus shift (thermal shift) or optical degradation. Intelligent camera systems for monitoring the melt pool are a mandatory technological prerequisite here in order to precisely control the extreme energy input and prevent material defects at maximum feed rates.
