FANUC AMERICA DEMONSTRATES AUTOMATED SOLUTIONS FOR WELDING AND PAINTING AT FABTECH

FANUC showcased the latest automation technologies for the fabrication industry at FABTECH 2024, Oct. 15-17, in Orlando.

All-new demonstrations included two innovative collaborative robot welding applications, in addition to the FABTECH debut of the FANUC M-950iA industrial robot showcasing high rigidity and precision via friction-stir welding.

Innovations in Welding Automation

Easy-to-use CRX cobots offer the same accuracy and repeatability as all FANUC robots, with the added benefit of simple programming, the ability to work safely and in close proximity to humans.

  • Flexibility and Efficiency: Welding near human operators requires flexibility as well as efficiency, demonstrated by the CRX-10iA/L cobot—mounted on an integrated 7th robot transfer unit (RTU)—which simulates ARC welding at one station while an operator loads the second station.
  • Drop Center Positioning: Showcasing the impressively long 1,889 mm reach of the new CRX-30iA/L cobot, an ARC welding demonstration of a skid steer cab on an integrated auxiliary axis showcased ease in handling large components.
  • Easy Programming: An all-new FANUC programming interface with buttons on the wrist allows welders with little to no robotic experience to create programs easily, as evidenced by the CRX-10iA/L cobot—with a 10 kg payload and 1,418 mm reach—in a live welding demonstration.
  • Rigid Precision: Making its FABTECH debut, the M-950iA/500 heavyweight robot features a wider range of motion, offering an impressive 500 kg payload capacity and 2,830 mm reach, showcased in a new friction stir welding demonstration featuring a StirRob Friction Stir Welding Head by FPT Industrie.
  • High-Speed Laser Cutting: The new M-800/60-20B, FANUC’s next-gen, high-accuracy industrial robot, showcased high-speed laser cutting, connected to a TRUMPF TRUFiber 4001 P and LaserMech FiberCUT STa. Cut holes are generated with Shape Gen software for easy single point teaching.
New Automated Robotic Painting Solutions
FANUC’s Paint Booth highlighted the benefits of robotic painting solutions for operations of all sizes and needs. With the industry’s widest range of paint robots that increase production and keep workers safe, we’ll be showing our latest innovative products for the painting, powder and/or gel coating with fiberglass reinforcement industries, including:
  • The New Paint Cobot, Now Available: As the first explosion-proof collaborative paint robot available globally, the CRX-10iA/L Paint unlocks the benefits of flexible automation for more companies, including high-mix, low volume operations. Be sure to see it in action at the show!
  • Cobot Inspection for Paint: To help ensure a perfect finish every time, the CRX-10iA/L demonstrated its ability to perform detailed colour-matching inspection tasks even in the smallest of spaces.
  • Visual Tracking for Boosting Production: A FANUC P-40iA paint robot using iRVision 3DV and the new Visual Tracking for PaintTool software to quickly and reliably track and paint randomly oriented parts. Working in tandem, a CRX-20iA using iRPickTOOL and iRVision software will load/unload guitars.
  • Versatile Paint Automation: Highlighted how FANUC paint robots are perfect for automating the painting of smaller and more challenging parts, the P-40iA paint robot will use coordinated motion with a turntable to precisely paint plastic automotive pieces.
Factory Automation and IoT
FANUC CNC products were highlighted; these products enable machine tool builders to go to market with the best equipment possible. Demos highlighted our powerful and energy-efficient new Alpha i-D Servo System as well as our dedicated CNCs for laser cutting machines.
