Laser micromachining platforms are optimized to meet the growing need for smaller parts.

In its booth, GF Machining Solutions will display applications made with all its laser-based technologies: Additive Manufacturing (AM), Laser texturing and Laser ablation. The company's unique portfolio includes Laser powder bed fusion, Laser texturing, Laser ablation and Laser micromachining. Its focus at LASYS will be on Laser ablation and Laser micromachining.

Dogan Basic, Product Marketing Manager Advanced Manufacturing – Laser technologies, is convinced that many micro machined applications (currently produced with conventional technologies) can be made with the laser technology, especially thanks to the performances of ultra-short pulse lasers. "I strongly believe that the laser technology represents the future key technology to tackle the challenges related to micro machining in terms of complex geometries, burr-free cutting, flexibility, lead time, and cost of consumables (e.g. by not using cutting tools or electrodes)", says Basic.

Unsurpassed accuracy, speed and quality with Laser solutions
Of GF Machining Solutions' Laser portfolio, the AgieCharmilles LASER P 400 U, the Microlution ML-5 and the MLTC are the right machines for customers ready to go beyond the capabilities of traditional CNC machining. The Microlution ML-5 is optimized for micro-scale holemaking and fine cutting without creating heat-affected zones.

The machine’s ultrafast femtosecond laser reduces cycle times and tooling costs to enable the production of precision parts in seconds. It combines quick acceleration, exceptional stability, precise part handling and motion control with integrated part characterization and measurement to deliver unsurpassed accuracy, speed and quality.

The one-of-a-kind engraving, texturing and marking solution LASER P 400 U combines outstanding quality, efficiency and femtosecond Laser technology with the smallest possible footprint. Laser texturing, Laser blasting, Laser engraving and Laser marking operations can be realized in 5 axis on the most complex parts, on the same machine and in a single setup, with unprecedented quality.

In the electronic components and the medical markets, micro machining can help manufacturers minimize material lost during the machining process, achieve burr-free surface finishing and get dimensional control. The MLTC, specialized in Laser micromachining, allows customers in the medical market to quickly and accurately machine complex features in metal and polymer tubes with high precision.

Repeatable precision and quality, paired with zero scrap and high throughput rates are the result of the machining with femtosecond Laser pulses. The MLTC is able to machine multiple shapes in a single setup and three times faster than with conventional processes. With the transformation of the automotive industry towards electro mobility, new markets are opening up in which laser material processing enables efficient series production.
