Some 30 high-quality CNC machines from the former Big Kaiser factory in Switzerland will be put up for sale in mid-May. Whereas these days most auctions take place online, this time Dome Auctions is organising via a ticket sale (read look and buy) at the factory hall in Rümlang near Zurich.
Big Kaiser's Japanese parent company, Big Daishowa, has decided on a global rebranding and reorganisation of its production sites. This put an end to the production of high-quality tooling for the machining industry in Rümlang in Switzerland at the beginning of this year. However, an R&D centre still remains here.
Studer S33 universal cylindrical grinding
This means that the machines at the state-of-the-art plant in Switzerland will have to be sold. ‘A small factory remains for training young people. We will sell the large CNC machines,’ says Oliver Zwahlen, Business Area Director at Platinum Industrial Plant & Machinery (PIPM Group) which is conducting the sale of the machines together with Dome Auctions and Assets for Sale. It involves some 29 high-quality CNC machines, mostly from premium brands, often only a few years old. One of the highlights of this auction is a 2023 Studer S33. This universal cylindrical grinder has run less than 2,700 production hours. One can grind complex workpieces in one setup. Several other high-quality Studer grinding machines are also now entering the market.
State-of-the-art Index G220
Another young machine is the Index G220, a turning milling centre with takeover spindle and PROFimat bar feeder for manless production. This CNC machine for complete machining of complex products from round material dates from 2022, so it has barely been in production for two years. Apart from bar feed, the Index G220 is also equipped with a unit for part removal. The machine is sold together with a wide range of tool holders.

Young DMG Mori CLX 350
Besides this turning milling centre, a young CNC turning machine from DMG Mori, the CLX 350 (from 2019), will also be auctioned. This modern turning centre is equipped with a takeover spindle, sub-turret (12-position VDI 30), fog extraction and bar feeder (Breuning). Included with this CNC machine are 43 Hainbuch collets as well as 70 VDI 30 driven tools for in the underturret. The DMG Mori CLX 350 has a working length of 440 mm between spindles and a turning diameter of 320 mm. Integrated into the machine is a gripper that collects the parts when they are ready and puts them away on a conveyor belt. A 2017 DMG Mori NTX 1000 is also for sale, as well as a 2019 Spinner lathe PD42-S-V4.

Grinders
Dome Auction will also sell a number of other grinding machines from Big Kaiser's estate. These include a Kellenberger Varia RS175/1000 (built in 2001), a large Rosa Ermando SL 11.7 surface grinder (from 2012) and several more Studer grinders. One of the modern milling machines being sold is a Mikron VCE 1200 Po 3-axis CNC milling machine. This machine is equipped with Renishaw measuring probes and a StepTec spindle, among other things.

Ticket sale
PIPM has engaged Dome Auctions for the ticket sale. This is the new auction house that started at the beginning of this year and focuses exclusively on the industry. PIPM has a subsidiary called AssetsforSale.com which normally sells PIPM machines privately. On this occasion, PIPM has entered into a strategic partnership with the auction house. Wim Dieker, initiator of Dome Auctions and former owner of Troostwijk Auctions: ‘The potential buyer will only find industrial machines on our auction platform. No shop inventory or stock of used machines from the trade. There are high-quality and modern machines at Big Kaiser. The machines are connected and ready for use in their familiar environment, namely the factory in which they have been produced.’
The sale at Big Kaiser will take place during the official viewing day on 15 May and is a ticket sale only. The ticket sale starts at 10.00 am and lasts until 3.00 pm. More information on these high-quality CNC machines and other machines being sold can be found on Dome Auctions' website.
